What is high blood pressure?

High blood pressure is a condition that occurs when blood is moving through the arteries at a higher pressure than normal. This condition can be caused by different factors, how ever if your blood pressure gets too high or stay high for an extend period of time it leads to health problems.

High blood pressure can be caused by a lot of different factors ranging from habits, heredity and more. those factors includes:

  • Aging
  • Genetics ( Inheritance )
  • Obesity
  • Kidney disease
  • Adrenal and thyroid disorder
  • Too much salty diet
  • Lack of exercise
  • Smoking
  • Excessive Alcohol consumption

Symptoms

High blood pressure has a more silent set of symptoms i.e the patient may not even know they have it, it may take years severity to make the symptoms visible and even at that it might still take other factors to trigger the symptoms. Those symptoms includes:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Chest pain
  • Blood in urine
  • Shortness of breathe
  • Nosebleeds

It should be noted that symptoms will only show up in severe cases and would require immediate medical attention because these condition would likely lead to stroke.

Given that the symptoms are silent it is advisable to always go for medical check up and make sure they take your blood pressure readings at every appointment.

Treatment

Unfortunately High blood pressure as no permanent cure, so patients would have to be on constant medication. Here are some effective ways to keep your blood pressure under control.

  • Reduce stress
  • Exercise regularly
  • Limit alcohol intake
  • Quit smoking
  • Lose some weight
  • Cut back on caffeine
  • Eat healthy diet with less salt
  • Always take your medication as prescribed by your doctor
  • Monitor your Blood pressure at home and see your doctor regularly.
